I have been improving or at least kept the English level after I graduated from university 12 years ago by reading Disney Stories to my daughter since she was born.I found it is useful and funny. I have learnt lots of words and phrases which I cant learn from other English text books. These stories seem easy,but sometimes I still meet problems. Here is one: The end of the story of Mulan was :"Guess who's back on Pedestal Five? Call out for egg rolls!" Because the story is abbreviated and I have never watched the movie,I am not sure what  this mean. I have asked many English teachers but they don't knowCan you help me?Thank you!

you are absolutely right that Disney's classical stories are among the best for Children, as well as adults to read. These are the best examples for people to understand why they don't need lots of big words, but still can write and speak beautiful English.  You definitely made a super wise decision to read Disney books to your child. If I were you, I would read each story over and over, 10 times, 100 times to her until she could remember every authentic beautiful English sentence. This is how the American kids are trained.  I d like to expand the idea of reading when I get  time later.
Again, you are not only a great, but a wise daddy.

i think learning english is a long and hard work for us. It needs persistence and stamenia and patience. as for how to learn it well, it depends. but i really appreciate your information.

Well, when it comes to  entertainment, I only watch  movies in English, watch TV news in English and browse websites in English.

hahahahahaha, how stereotyped I am! I thought I had never made mistake when judging whether the person writing to me was a male or female. This time, you got me.

Yes, I once posted somewhere to remind people to avoid using the mummy. In US, I don't remember I have ever seen people call their mothers mummies. But in China, traditional British english is tought everywhere. So it is understandable for poeple to call their mothers 木乃伊s.

Anyway, I want to say sorry to you. So you are not only a great, but also a wise mummy, oopsie, mommy!

glad to try!
1. this movie is a very chinese orientated movie so it will not be easily understood by foreigners
2. this movie is made very much with american style so it will be hard for us to get it without the context.
3. when did that statement occur in the scene?  at the very end.  i remember the last scene is that the fire dragon was celebrated and welcomed by all mulan's ancestors. and they called for a party, right?!
4. "Guess who's back on Pedestal Five? Call out for egg rolls"  the first part is because the fire dragon is coming back after doing a very good fight together with mulan, and he was originally sit at the 5th stool. and the second part is a statement to call for a party.  and the egg roll is a very typical chinese food to represent chinese in american culture....
