He is a native LA.

No wonder he likes LA more. For me, I still think HZ is better even though I love LA very much too. Because of the many advantages that LA has, most Chinese like LA. Once a Chinese moved to LA, he/she most likely will stay forever, or at least for many years.
it is very interesting that you said American students liked to sit together in libraries. I think you are probably right. Most big research universities have several large libraries. Unlike those in China, libraries in US univ. campuses are often pretty empty, seats are hardly occupied. it doesn't mean American students don't like to study. It happens probably because first, the libraries are very well equiped with more than enough desks and chairs. In the university I studied, a graduate student could even reserve a private cubic, like a small office with walls around, of his own for as long as he wanted in the library. So I practically had two offices, one in my my department as a teaching assistant, one in the library. Second, a large portion of American college students stay in their dorms which, in general, also provide study areas and other good places for both studies and meetings. You are right that they don't go to libaries to sit there for study very often unless during mid term and final exam periods. American students often go to libraries for group discussion or projects. I also often saw those couples ( I mean the boyfriends and girlfriends) sitting together to study. As you might know, boys are not allowed to stay over nights in girls' rooms in universities' dorms, and vice versa.
